A Review of Baby It's You (Broadway)
By Alina G., April 22, 2011
I saw Baby It's You (Broadway) on 04/19/11. Overall, I'd say it was a 2-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “It lacked a solid book, but the actual music performances were stellar”
I had a pretty good time and left the show feeling more knowledgeable about this era and curious to know more about Florence Greenberg. I'd describe the show as predictable, safe, and for the most part enjoyable. Erica asha was a highlight of the show because sang her heart out as Dione Warwick. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG. I would recommend this show to fans of this type of music but not to theater-savvy people.
I saw this show because I was given tickets and had hear mixed reviews. I wanted to make up my own mind about it.. I would see it again. I sat in the right orchestra area of the theater. The view was clear and the seats were good enough.
There are a lot of things that bothered me about this production. It lacks a clear story, the book is weak, and the story of Florence Greenberg does not dig as deep as it should. That being said, fans of this type of music will thoroughly enjoy it. The performances are great, and the actors do their best to work with what they were given. Beth Leavel was under-used and I would have liked to hear more from her.
