A Review of Brief Encounter (Broadway)
By Andrew Benvenuti, September 23, 2010
I saw Brief Encounter (Broadway) on 09/22/10. Overall, I'd say it was a 5-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “One of the most creative, fresh, and original shows to play Broadway in a long time.”
I had a fantastic time and left the show feeling elated and inspired. I'd describe the show as witty, artful, and entertaining. The ensemble cast was a highlight of the show because every person gives an impeccable performance. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG. I would recommend this show to friends, couples, students, other adults but not to children.
I saw this show because I was offered inexpensive tickets. I would see it again. I sat in the center mezzanine area of the theater. The view was Clear, but far away and the seats were comfortable.
This new play at studio 54 is one of the most wonderful shows I've seen on Broadway in a long time. I haven't had such a good time at the theater since Wishful Drinking last fall. This play is funny, but also warm and touching. It is full of wonderful creative moments of true theatrical artistry that will make you savor the moments like a juicy steak. I would see this show again in a heartbeat, and probably will bring others to see it with me.
