A Review of Fela! (Broadway)
By Cassie W., August 12, 2010
I saw Fela! (Broadway) on 08/10/10. Overall, I'd say it was a 4-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “The dancing was incredible, as I expected, and the story was very powerful.”
I had a glorious time and left the show feeling inspired and moved. I'd describe the show as stunning, awesome, and jaw-dropping. The historical aspect was a highlight of the show because I learned so much about Fela Kuti and Nigeria. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG-13. I would recommend this show to anyone who appreciates authentic choreography and the art of storytelling but not to anyone who is not interested in African music and dance.
I saw this show because I love the choreography of Bill T. Jones. I would see it again. I sat in the right balcony area of the theater. The view was good for being so far away and the seats were comfortable.
