A Review of Memphis (Broadway)
By Greg S., April 07, 2010
I saw Memphis (Broadway) on 01/06/10. Overall, I'd say it was a 4-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “Pleasantly surprised, and I highly recommend”
I had a fun time and left the show feeling entertained and impressed. I'd describe the show as lively, well-performed, and somewhat unpredictable. Chad kimball was a highlight of the show because he really gave an amazing and original performance as Huey. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG-13. I would recommend this show to pretty much everybody but not to those who don't like musicals.
I saw this show because Next to Normal wasn't playing that day to be honest. I would see it again. I sat in the center orchestra area of the theater. The view was great and the seats were fine.
I really thought Chad Kimball gave a special performance, and he made the show for me. The other actors were all good too, but Kimball had a charm that really had me invested in the story. Don't worry, I'm not runing anything by saying this but I was also impressed that the plot was not as predictable as shows of the same ilk.
I can't say I loved the music as I can't even remember any of them right now, but the musical performances were entertaining, solid, and served the story well. Part of me wants to give it 5-stars, but I'm stingy.
