A Review of Peter and the Starcatcher (Off Broadway)
By Erin O., March 05, 2011
I saw Peter and the Starcatcher (Off Broadway) on 02/20/11. Overall, I'd say it was a 4-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “Excellent acting and directing. A family friendly show. A funny, sweet story.”
Peter and the Starcatcher tells the backstory to Peter Pan. It is appropriate for children, but is not a play for children. There were jokes and plot lines more geared towards adults. All of the actors were excellent. I especially adore Greg Hildreth and Arnie Burton. Both were very funny as expected. My favorite thing about the show was the low tech, low budget effects, which were very effective. The actors' bodies were used to show movement of the ship, to become a wall and doors, to hide things, all very effectively. Kudos to movement director, Steven Hoggett. I would definitely recommend this production as one of the better shows currently running in NYC.
