A Review of The Scottsboro Boys (Broadway)
By Anonymous, December 03, 2010
I saw The Scottsboro Boys (Broadway) on 11/28/10. Overall, I'd say it was a 3-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “A great production of a tragic story, but I didn't find myself caring about the injustices.”
I had a interesting time and left the show feeling disappointed and curious. I'd describe the show as tragic, touching, and well-directed. The choreography was a highlight of the show because it was stunning. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG-13. I would recommend this show to friends but not to young kids.
I saw this show because I had heard amazing, amazing things about it. I would see it again. I sat in the left balcony area of the theater. The view was clear and the seats were fine.
I went in with really high expectations because I had heard all of these wonderful things about the show. And I was disappointed. I couldn't find myself caring or really connecting with any of these men, so by the end, I wasn't caring about the outcome. I wonder if it was because I was so far away, being in the balcony, but I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't.
It was wonderfully directed and staged and I'm really hoping that Stroman is remembered come Tony time. All of the performers were excellent too. It was a really strong production of a really sad time in our nation's history, but I couldn't find myself feeling for them, even though I really wanted to.
